The first period in the Energy City lived up to its name. It was a fast-paced, entertaining twenty minutes that featured no goals.
The Terriers had a golden opportunity to take the lead after receiving a lengthy 5-on-3 power play, but despite spending almost the entire advantage in the attacking zone and peppering Bruins goaltender Nathan Kam, the game remained scoreless.
The Bruins also had a pair of power plays but failed to convert.
The Terriers outshot the Bruins 16–9 in the opening frame.
The middle frame was another fast-paced, tight-checking twenty minutes. The Bruins struck first off a Terriers turnover, as Lochlan Tetarenko snapped a shot under the blocker of Callum Creig to open the scoring.
The Terriers answered while shorthanded, with Evan Auld teaming up with Tylan Henrikson to tie the game. It was the Calgary native’s third of the campaign.
Yorkton took its first lead of the night late in the second period when rookie defenceman Mikale Budz made an incredible no-look pass from behind the net to a wide-open Jye Zawatsky, who capitalized for his 12th of the season.
The Terriers held a 21–15 shot advantage after forty minutes.
In the third period, the Terriers continued to pile on the goals. William Léonard extended his goal streak to four, slipping his 15th of the season five-hole on Kam to make it 4–1. They added two more late, with Aidan Vallance and Zawatsky both scoring to push the lead to four.
Creig was brilliant, stopping 27 of 28 shots to earn his seventh win of the season.
With the victory, the Terriers improve to 12-9-1 on the year and now shift their focus to the Warman Wolverines, who visit Westland Arena for a Sunday afternoon matinee.
