YORKTON, SK – Koen Senft’s second-period goal midway through the frame stood as the game-winner as the Flin Flon Bombers defeated the Yorkton Terriers 4-1.
The opening period of the Bombers and Terriers’ final meeting of the season was nothing short of thrilling. In a playoff-like atmosphere, the game had it all—big hits, shots off the post, back-and-forth chances, and one goal.
That goal belonged to the Terriers, who capitalized on their third power play of the period after failing to convert on an early 5-on-3 opportunity. Carter Briltz jammed home a loose puck at the side of the net, with Jaron Desnoyers and David Coyle picking up assists on Briltz’s ninth goal of the campaign.
Callum Creig, making his second consecutive start for Yorkton, was solid between the pipes, stopping all seven shots he faced. He played a crucial role in the Terriers successfully killing off two penalties.
In the middle frame, the Bombers punched back, outshooting the Terriers 13-5 and striking twice.
Before the goals, Creig made a pair of highlight-reel saves—one on Alexander during a breakaway and another on Keefe Gruner with a quick left-pad stop to preserve Yorkton’s 1-0 lead.
The Bombers’ first goal came shorthanded, as Ryder Ringor beat Creig high on the blocker side to tie the game. Just over a minute later, they struck again, with Senft tipping a Pierce Yakimchuk point shot under Creig’s glove to give Flin Flon its first lead of the night.
The Terriers pressed for the equalizer, with Léonard and Desnoyers both testing Kieper, but the Bombers’ goaltender stood tall to keep them ahead.
Early in the third, the Bombers extended their lead as Joey Lies buried a saucer pass from Senft to make it 3-1. Liam Hunks picked up the secondary assist on Lies’ fifth goal of the season.
Yorkton generated some pressure in the final frame but couldn’t find a way past Kieper.
Flin Flon sealed the win with an empty-netter late in the third, securing a 4-1 victory.
With the loss, Yorkton’s six-game winning streak comes to an end. The Terriers will look to bounce back tomorrow night on Ed Zawatsky Jersey Retirement Night when the La Ronge Ice Wolves visit Westland Insurance Arena.
