With just 13 games remaining in the regular season, it’s officially a sprint to the finish line.
The Yorkton Terriers have put themselves in an excellent position down the stretch, riding a torrid run that has seen them win 15 of their last 18 games and string together a six-game winning streak. That surge has vaulted the Terriers past the Weyburn Red Wings into first place in the Bunge Division—a spot Weyburn had occupied for much of the season.
Tonight marks another pivotal moment for both clubs, with just two points separating the Terriers and Red Wings in the standings. It’s the sixth meeting of the season between the rivals, with the most recent matchup coming December 16, when Yorkton skated to a convincing 7–3 home victory.
One of the hottest players in the SJHL right now is Drummondville, QC product Gabriel Courchesne. He’s riding an 11-game point streak and has recorded four multi-point performances during that stretch. Courchesne has delivered several big moments in his inaugural season with the Orange and Black, none bigger than his game-tying blast Saturday night in Melville to force overtime—a game ultimately decided by a Jye Zawatsky snipe.
Courchesne currently sits second in SJHL scoring with 60 points, part of a top-five leaderboard dominated by the Terriers’ first line. Zawatsky follows closely with 57 points, while Léonard rounds out the trio with 54.
Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM from the Whitecap Resources Centre.
