WEYBURN, SK — The Yorkton Terriers used a three-goal first period to cruise past the Weyburn Red Wings 5–1 on the road in Weyburn, extending their winning streak to seven games.
Yorkton got off on the right foot in the opening twenty minutes.
Ryder McDonald opened the scoring six minutes into the game, ripping his eighth of the season past Joey Rocha. Owen Roberts and Austin Horbachewsky recorded the assists.
The Terriers doubled their lead a few minutes later, with Jye Zawatsky finishing from the side of the net for his 22nd of the year. Gabriel Courchesne picked up the lone assist, extending his point streak to 12 games.
Weyburn responded less than two minutes later as Josh Sale outwaited Terriers goaltender Callum Creig. His 18th of the season cut the Yorkton lead in half.
The visitors quickly restored their two-goal cushion, once again with the top line delivering. William Léonard slipped his 28th of the season through the wickets of Rocha, pulling him into a tie with Ewan Rennie for the SJHL lead in goals.
Creig was sharp in the opening frame, turning aside 13 shots to close out a strong first period for Yorkton.
The middle frame featured just one goal, and it again came from the Terriers. Aidan Vallance directed his 10th of the season past Rocha, with Thomas Ries and Gavin Bartha picking up the assists.
Yorkton controlled the period, heavily outshooting the Red Wings 14–5 in the second.
The Terriers added one more in the third, as Courchesne buried his 27th of the season to cap off the scoring.
Creig earned his 21st win of the year, finishing with 28 saves.
With the victory, the Terriers move four points clear of Weyburn atop the Bunge Division and now turn their attention to a pair of home games against Warman and Estevan.
