Story Coming In:

Take away the first period from last night, and Yorkton stuck with and at times outplayed the Flin Flon Bombers. During the last 40 minutes, the Terriers outshot the Bombers 29-24. One of the biggest difference makers was the special teams units. Flin Flon went 4-7 on the power-play, while the Terriers went 0-7. If Yorkton wants to come away from two points in a difficult barn, they need to stay out of the box and shore up both special teams units. In addition, the defence needs to be stronger. The Terriers are giving up a league-most four goals a game, while allowing the second most amount of shots in the SJHL. If the Terriers can play stronger defensively while putting in a 60 minute effort, then two points is easily in reach for the black and orange.

View From Flin Flon:

Very few teams are as good on home ice as the Flin Flon Bombers. The Bombers have not lost in regulation at the Whitney Forum having gone 9-0-1-1, and last night they showed why. Jaeden Mercier led the way with five assists, while Jeremi Tremblay, Jacob Vockler, Liam Bridger and Alexi Sylvestre were threats all night long. The Bombers boast two of the best special teams units in the SJHL, having the best power-play and the second best penalty kill. Throw in the fact they’ve won five straight, and the Bombers are full of confidence as they are among the league’s elite.

The Last Line:

Despite the numbers, Caleb Allen has been one of the best players for the Yorkton Terriers this year. Allen has faced the third most shots in the SJHL, and he has given his team a chance each night he plays. The Lone Tree, Colorado product received a lot of hype at the beginning of the season from the league, and that has diminished, due in part to the Terriers recent struggles. But don’t let that fool you, Allen has been one of the league’s best goalies this season. If Allen can get some support and the Terriers can cut down on shots against, then success will follow both Allen and the Terriers as they scrap for a playoff position.
