After months of preparation, recruiting, and visualizing what the 2026-27 Yorkton Terriers roster may look like, preseason is finally here.
Training camp is officially in the books, with Team Black defeating Team White to claim the Norm Cup. Now, the Terriers turn their attention to their first preseason test as they travel to Virden tonight to battle the Oil Capitals in the first of two meetings. The two teams will meet again tomorrow night in Yorkton.
Preseason is all about fine-tuning the roster, evaluating players in game situations, and seeing if there are a few diamonds in the rough who can make an impact.
The Terriers have the opportunity to return a handful of key players from last season’s squad, including 2026 SJHL Defenceman of the Year Thomas Ries and goaltender Callum Creig. That returning group helped Yorkton march to the Canterra Seeds Cup Final for the first time since 2013 while also capturing the club’s first division title in six years.
The standard was raised again last season, and with a strong returning core mixed with plenty of new faces looking to make their mark, I expect another hungry group heading into the 2026-27 campaign. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. CST tonight in Virden.
