The opening period between the Nipawin Hawks and Yorkton Terriers featured a pair of power-play opportunities for both sides, but neither team was able to capitalize. Nipawin held a 10–6 edge in shots on goal after twenty minutes.
The middle frame finally produced the game’s first goal, as the puck worked its way to the high slot where Gavin Bartha stepped into a shot and hammered home his third of the season past Colten Scott. The Terriers built on that lead shortly after, once again getting production from the blue line as Thomas Ries directed a shot past Scott for his 10th of the season. Cash Lanigan picked up the assists on both goals.
The Hawks cut into the deficit late in the period when Eric Hoiness beat a screened Callum Creig to make it a 2–1 contest.
After forty minutes, Nipawin held a 16–13 advantage in shots on goal.
