As the calendar flips to February, the Yorkton Terriers are hoping their strong play from January carries over. The Terriers posted an impressive 8–3 record during the month, closing it out with a dominant 5–3 home victory over the Battleford North Stars, outshooting the visitors 47–21.
The win was highlighted by a natural hat trick from Yorkton native Jye Zawatsky, who continues to enjoy a breakout season. With his three-point night, Zawatsky surpassed the 50-point mark, blowing past his previous career high of 34 points.
Callum Creig also capped off a stellar month between the pipes with another victory. In nine starts during January, Creig earned seven wins while posting a 2.77 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.
With that success, the Terriers are beginning to create separation in the standings, sitting five points clear of sixth place and seven points ahead of both seventh and eighth. At the same time, Yorkton is knocking on the door of fourth-place Nipawin, trailing by just two points — a team they face this afternoon — adding extra urgency to today’s matchup.
Points come at a premium this time of year, and the Terriers are showing they can compete with anyone on any given night.
