MELVILLE, SK – The Melville Millionaires scored three second-period goals as they went on to defeat the Yorkton Terriers 5-2 on home ice in Game Three of the First Round Series.
Gaborik Carlson opened the scoring for the Mills, tipping a point shot past Ethan Farrow for his second goal of the playoffs.
In the middle frame, the Mills added two more early in the second period, as Raiden Zacharias and Carlson each netted power-play markers. Carlson’s second goal marked the end of the night for Farrow, who was replaced by Callum Creig in net.
Creig was tested right away as the Mills were awarded a penalty shot, but he came up big, stoning William Forsberg with a glove save.
However, Melville struck again, with Olson beating Creig short side to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Terriers found some life late in the period when Thierry Laliberte ripped one glove side past Ben Laurette, cutting the lead to 4-1.
In the final frame, Yorkton pulled within two as William Leonard tipped in a Riley Cormier point shot for his first goal of the playoffs.
The Terriers had an opportunity for a potential comeback with a lengthy 5-on-3 power play in the late stages, generating a few chances but failing to solve Laurette.
The Millionaires would add another in the final minute, cutting Yorkton’s series lead to 2-1.
Melville outshot Yorkton 42-40 and went 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Terriers went 0-for-6 with the man advantage.
Ethan Farrow suffered his first loss of the playoffs, stopping 18 of 21 shots, while Creig turned aside 19 of 21. Laurette made 38 saves for his first victory of the postseason.
Both teams will have little time to rest, as Yorkton looks to regroup for Game Four tomorrow night in Melville.
Puck drop is at 7:00 PM.
