Tresor Wotton made 36 saves including four in the shootout while Zach McIntyre had a pair of points, as the Terriers wrap up a three game road trip with a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame. With the win, Yorkton took four of a possible six points from the three game road swing, and sit in sole possession of 6th in the SJHL.
Yorkton opened the scoring in the first period. Jaryd Sych was carrying the puck beside his goal when McIntyre lifted his stick and slid the puck past a surprised Austin Elliott for his 11th goal of the season. Notre Dame tied it up before the end of the frame. Evan Vanden Heuvel let go a shot from the point that was booted aside from Wotton, and after a couple of attempts, Dane Probe banged home the rebound past the Yorkton net-minder. Wotton was excellent in goal through the first period, making a handful of highlight reel saves, including robbing Connor Nolan with the glove on a 2-on-1.
The Hounds took a lead early in the second period. Phil Fath picked up an Elliot Dutil pass and drove to the slot, where Fath fired it between the legs of Wotton. There wouldn’t be any more scoring until the third period. With less than a minute left in the third period, and for the second game on the road trip, Steven Norum found a loose puck in a mad scramble and slid it into the Notre Dame net to tie the game at two. For Norum it was his ninth goal of the season.
Overtime solved nothing, and the game headed to a shootout. McIntyre, Clay Sleeva and Carson Henry all struck for goals in the six round shootout, while Wotton made four saves, including a scorpion save on Dutil, to seal the victory for the Terriers.
Yorkton will return to action on Tuesday for their fourth game in six nights when they host the Flin Flon Bombers. The game will be broadcast on the GX 94 online only stream, with the pre-game show starting at 7:20pm and play-by-play kicking off at 7:30pm.
