The opening twenty minutes between the Yorkton Terriers and Weyburn Red Wings were tightly contested, with both clubs keeping things structured defensively in a scoreless first period. Each side had a power-play opportunity but couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Callum Creig got the nod for Yorkton, turning aside all 11 shots he faced. Joey Rocha answered with 13 saves for Weyburn as the goaltenders stole the spotlight early.
The second period opened with immediate drama. Red Wings forward Will Munro was awarded a penalty shot after being impeded on a breakaway. Munro deked to the backhand, but Creig got just enough of it to keep the puck out and preserve the tie.
The middle frame eventually produced the game’s first goal, with Yorkton striking on the power play. Cash Lanigan wired home his 17th of the season past Rocha to give the Terriers a 1–0 lead.
Weyburn responded with a point shot from Josh Karman that beat a screened Creig to even the score. The Red Wings then grabbed their first lead of the night when Dion Schraeder finished off a 2-on-1 rush.
Weyburn outshot Yorkton 16–12 in the second period.
In the third, the visitors pulled even once again as Lanigan buried his second of the night to make it 2–2.
The Red Wings answered on the power play, with Rylan Pearce’s point shot finding its way through traffic to restore Weyburn’s lead at 3–2.
Aidan Mohan added an empty-netter for insurance, and Weyburn held on for the victory.
The two teams will meet again Friday night in Yorkton, with just four games remaining in the regular season for both clubs.
