Games against a divisional rival are always circled on the schedule — but even more so when a division crown is on the line.
The Yorkton Terriers took care of business last week, posting a perfect 3-0-0 record while the Weyburn Red Wings could only watch the out-of-town scoreboard and hope for help. Those three victories not only erased the games in hand Yorkton held, they pushed the Terriers eight points clear with just five games remaining.
This home-and-home set with the Wings presents a golden opportunity for Yorkton to cement its grip on the Bunge Division. A win tonight on the road at Whitecap Resource Centre would move the Terriers one step closer to securing the franchise’s first division title since the 2019-20 campaign.
Yorkton enters the night red-hot, having won 21 of its last 25 contests. The Terriers boast the SJHL’s leading scorer in Gabriel Courchesne (73 points), while Cash Lanigan tops all rookies with 43 points. Thomas Ries sits tied for the league lead in defenceman scoring, and Callum Creig paces the SJHL in victories with 25.
The depth of this group continues to shine. Thirteen different players found the back of the net during last week’s three wins, and both goaltenders factored into the victories — a testament to the balance throughout the lineup.
Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM. You can stream the game live on FloHockey.
