The Yorkton Terriers exploded for five goals in the opening period and never looked back, cruising to a convincing 7–2 victory over the visiting Battlefords North Stars on Friday night at the Westland Insurance Arena.
Cash Lanigan and Jye Zawatsky led the offensive charge, combining for five of Yorkton’s seven goals. Lanigan capped off a stellar night by completing his first career SJHL hat trick in the third period, while Zawatsky continued his hot streak with a pair of goals and strong play at both ends of the ice.
William Léonard and Thomas Ries also found the back of the net to round out the scoring for the Terriers, who fired on all cylinders from start to finish. Goaltender Callum Creig turned aside 18 of 20 shots to earn the win between the pipes.
With the victory, the Terriers extended their winning streak to three games and improved their record to 8–6–1 on the season. The team will now hit the road for a four-game swing, beginning Tuesday night in Flin Flon as they take on the Bombers at the Whitney Forum.
