Halloween Showdown in Yorkton

It’s Friday night, and there’s plenty happening across the sports world — It’s Halloween weekend, a night for kids to dress up and collect candy, the Toronto Blue Jays are chasing their third World Series title, and your Yorkton Terriers are back on home ice at the Westland Arena to host the Battlefords North Stars for the first time this season.

Tonight marks the last chance for fans to see the Terriers at home for a while, as the team will head out on a four-game road trip before returning to Yorkton on November 21st to face the Melville Millionaires. The Gallagher Centre will be taken over by the annual Harvest Showdown during the first two weeks of November.

The Terriers enter the game riding some momentum after a thrilling 2–1 overtime victory in “The Cage” in Nipawin. Thomas Ries continued to shine, scoring the game-winner and solidifying his status as one of the SJHL’s top defensemen. The Humboldt product has already scored five goals — tied for the league lead among blueliners — and sits fourth in SJHL defensive scoring with 12 points in 14 games.

Between the pipes, Callum Creig has been a bright spot over the last two games, bouncing back impressively after a tough outing against Flin Flon. In his last two starts versus Warman and Nipawin, Creig has posted a .953 save percentage and a goals-against average under 2.00, lifting his season save percentage back above the .900 mark.

Offensively, the Terriers continue to be powered by the chemistry of the Zawatsky–Courchesne–Léonard line. The trio has combined for 44 points through 14 games, including 10 of the team’s 17 power play goals this season.

It will be another strong test for a Terriers squad looking to win three straight for the first time this season.

Puck drop is at 7:00 PM at the Westland Arena.
