YORKTON, SK – Callum Creig made 28 saves for his 12th victory of the season as the Yorkton Terriers, powered by three power-play goals and a shorthanded tally, edged the Notre Dame Hounds 4-3 at Westland Insurance Arena.
The Terriers’ special teams set the tone early, providing a spark in the opening twenty minutes.
First, Evan Auld capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity after Jaron Desnoyers forced a turnover, roofing his sixth goal of the season past Spencer Borsos.
Yorkton struck again, this time on the power play. Bryce Dahl fired a point shot that found its way into the net for his fourth goal of the year, with Desnoyers and William Léonard picking up assists.
The Hounds thought they had cut the lead in half on a power play of their own, but Mark Djordjevic’s tip-in attempt was waved off due to a high stick.
Shortly after, the Hounds did get on the board, as Nick Beatty redirected a shot home to make it a 2-1 game.
Callum Creig was sharp in the first period, stopping 13 shots, while Borsos faced six.
The Terriers’ special teams continued to make an impact in the middle frame, adding two more power-play goals.
First, Thomas Ries tipped home a Harrison Aldridge point shot for his ninth goal of the season. Then, toward the end of the period, Desnoyers struck again, redirecting another shot past Borsos for his 23rd of the year and his third goal in his last five periods.
The Hounds responded late in the frame, as Néka Jean jammed home a loose puck in the crease after a phenomenal stop by Creig, cutting the lead to two once again.
Shots were even in the period at 10 apiece.
The final frame featured just one goal, coming in the late stages of the game. Hudson Kerr fired a sharp-angle shot that found its way in, pulling the Hounds within one at 4-3.
The Terriers survived a late push from Notre Dame to secure back-to-back wins and close the gap for first place in the Viterra Division to just three points.
Yorkton will be back in action on Friday and Saturday in a home-and-home series against the Estevan Bruins.
