YORKTON, SK: Harrison Aldridge broke a 2-2 tie with 3:44 left in the third period as the Yorkton Terriers picked up a 4-2 victory over the Battlefords North Stars to sweep the season series.
The home side came out aggressive in the opening 20 minutes, dominating offensive zone time and adopting a shoot-first mentality, outshooting the North Stars 11-3.
They opened the scoring with a blast from the point by Riley Cormier, who netted his seventh goal of the campaign.
Joshua Boyko, making his Terriers debut, picked up an assist on the play, along with defenseman James Durfee.
The Terriers had three power play opportunities in the first period, including a four-minute double minor. North Stars goaltender Justen Maric stood tall despite generating several chances, keeping it a one-goal game.
In the middle frame, the Terriers extended their lead with a shorthanded goal. David Coyle sprung captain Jaron Desnoyers on a breakaway, and he ripped his team-leading 21st goal past Maric, glove side, to make it 2-0.
The North Stars responded with a strong push in the latter half of the period. They cut into the lead on the power play when Anthony Campbell redirected his 20th goal of the season past Crieg. Just 23 seconds later, Nikita Ivashchenko found the back of the net, tying the game 2-2.
The North Stars outshot the Terriers 13-9 in the second period.
The third period was a defensive battle until the final minutes when Harrison Aldridge fired a point shot from the left side that found its way past a screened Maric, giving the Terriers the lead for good. It was the defenceman’s third goal of the season.
Jaron Desnoyers sealed the victory with an empty-netter, his team-leading 22nd goal of the campaign.
Callum Creig stopped 23 shots for his 12th win of the season.
The Terriers will be back in action tomorrow night at 7:00 PM when they host the Notre Dame Hounds at Westland Insurance Arena.
