Terriers Take On Red Wings

Story Coming In:

Despite a loss to Notre Dame on Saturday, 6th place is still up for grabs for the Yorkton Terriers. The orange and gray need three points in their final two regular season games to leapfrog the La Ronge Ice Wolves, who have completed their season. On paper, the Terriers have been successful against the Weyburn Red Wings, having gone 5-1-0-1. However, this is a Weyburn team that at times has given the Terriers everything they can handle. Karsten Kruska continues to have the hot hand, putting up points in seven straight games, while Logan Cyca had a goal on Saturday in his return from injury. If the defense shores up and the offense keeps clicking, then the Terriers should have a chance to claim 6th place heading into Saturday’s season finale.

View From Weyburn:

The Red Wings are playing with a lot of confidence right now, while playing the role of spoiler. Having won two straight contests, Weyburn knocked off the hated Estevan Bruins for the first time this season, thanks to a four goal performance by Davis Chorney, before ensuring that the Notre Dame Hounds will finish the year in 8th place with a come from behind victory last night. Goaltenders Jackson Fellner and Dazza Mitchell were excellent in the victories, while Mi-Kwan Tallman and Ty Mason each have three points over the last two games. Weyburn will finish in last place in the SJHL, however, with a chance to pin Yorkton in a playoff series against the Humboldt Broncos, the Red Wings should come out firing for the two points.

Oh Nelly:

While the numbers don’t pop, Greg Nelson has been an excellent acquisition for the Yorkton Terriers. The 19-year-old is a veteran presence, having played 110 career Junior A games over three seasons. A physical force, Nelson has been slotted as a role player, usually playing with the young AP’s to help them settle into the SJHL game. With three goals over the last five games, the Veteran, Alberta product has provided secondary scoring for the Terriers, which will be important come playoff time. With the final push to avoid Humboldt in the playoffs taking place, standout performances by guys like Nelson will be key for the Terriers to finish in 6th place.
