Story Coming In:

For the second straight game, the Yorkton Terriers let a lead slip away, this time falling 5-3 to Melfort Mustangs on Tuesday night. Carson Henry, Maddux Nollski and Tyson Perkins tallied for Yorkton, but the Terriers gave up four straight including three goals in the third period. Now, the Terriers are 0-3-0-0 to start the season, and are desperately looking for the first win of the season. They will get a boost to the line-up tonight, as Kishaun Gervais returns to the roster after serving a three game suspension. Weyburn’s arrival marks the third match of a four game home-stand, which will wrap up Saturday against the Notre Dame Hounds, before the Terriers travel to Warman for the SJHL Showcase.

View From Weyburn:

The Weyburn Red Wings were supposed to start their 2021/22 campaign last weekend against the Melville Millionaires. However, due to a positive case of COVID-19 within the Mils organization, both games were postponed, meaning tonight is the season opening contest for the Red Wings. A new voice is behind the bench, as Cody Mapes takes over the reins as head coach and general manager for Weyburn. They also boast, arguably, the best goalie in the SJHL in Joseph Young, as well as former WHL defender Cayde Augustine. Up front, Dante Ballarin is expected to lead the way on offence, and 16-year-old Ty Mason, playing for his hometown team, is expected to be the next big thing in Weyburn. After their visit to the Westland Insurance Arena, Weyburn will host their Highway 39 rivals, Estevan, on Saturday, before heading to Warman for the showcase.

Return Of The Gerv:

After serving a three game suspension at the start of the season, Kishaun Gervais is expected to make his 2021/22 season debut for the Yorkton Terriers. The Kamsack product was named co-captain of the Terriers, and will bring leadership, speed, tenacity and a vast amount of experience to this young Yorkton squad. Last season, Gervais played in all six games the Terriers took part in, posting three goals and four points in the process. The 19-year-old also spent 50 games, split over two seasons, with the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League, where he tallied 19 points and 61 penalty minutes.
