Jakob Kalin had the game tying and the shootout winner, while Dazza Mitchell made 27 saves, and the Weyburn Red Wings knocked off the Yorkton Terriers 3-2 at the Westland Insurance Arena. Caleb Allen had a bounce back game with 31 saves in a losing cause, while Dylan Ruptash extended his goal scoring streak to four games.

Both teams had their chances in a scoreless first period. Kalin was denied by Allen by a stretching left toe save, before Dazza Mitchell denied the Terriers on the power-play with a right pad save of his own. The scoring didn’t start until midway through the second period. JD Hall found Ruptash on the left wing and the forward barreled in one-on-one with Mitchell, beating the goalie over the shoulder for his team leading 17th goal of the season. Matthew Reidy tied the game for Weyburn, when his shot, which was heading well wide, deflected off a Terrier and past a surprised Allen. Yorkton responded 18 seconds later. A point shot from Cale Strasky was tipped home by Cade Kennedy to make it 2-1 Terriers.

Weyburn found the equalizer late in the third period. Matteo Turin found a wide open Kalin on the backdoor, and the Calgary product rifled a shot past Allen to make it 2-2. Overtime solved nothing and this game headed to the skills competition. Cohner Saleski had the best chance to score for Yorkton, but he clanged his shot off the post. Kalin beat Allen through the five hole to give Weyburn the lead, and Mitchell sealed the deal with a stop on Dylan Ruptash.

Yorkton is back in action on Tuesday for a neutral site game against the Nipawin Hawks in Wadena. The game will not be broadcast on HockeyTV, however, it will be on the GX 94 alternate stream with the pre-game show starting at 6:50pm and play-by-play kicking off at 7:00pm.
