The calendar has changed, but the Yorkton Terriers’ winning ways have carried over into the new year. The team extended their streak to seven consecutive victories with a 7-4 triumph over the Melville Millionaires on New Year’s Day. The game showcased five different Terriers scoring goals and included a spirited fight from rookie defenceman Thomas Ries.
Tonight, the Terriers return to Westland Insurance Arena for the first of seven home games this January. They face the Estevan Bruins, who are making their first trip to Yorkton this season. This will be the third meeting between the two teams; their October matchup initially ended in a 3-0 Terriers victory, backstopped by Callum Creig, but was later changed to a win for Estevan due to forfeitures, they also met on the Cote first Nation, a 5-2 Terriers win.
The Terriers have begun to pull away in the Viterra Division standings, holding a six-point lead over second-place Weyburn. The Terriers have had success against Weyburn this season and will host them again on Sunday afternoon.
The Bruins, meanwhile, have experienced an up-and-down campaign. They currently sit in 10th place with an 11-13-4 record. Estevan’s offence is led by Kent Moors, their only player averaging over a point per game.
