Highway 10 Rivalry Resumes as Terriers Host Mills

YORKTON, SK: One of the SJHL’s fiercest rivalries is set to be renewed, as the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires clash for the first time this season in the latest edition of the Highway 10 rivalry.

The two longtime rivals will meet for the first time since last spring’s Canterra Seeds Cup Playoffs, where the Terriers once again got the better of the Millionaires, eliminating their Highway 10 rivals in six games in their first-round matchup.

The Terriers enter the weekend looking to get back into the win column following a 9-5 loss to the Weyburn Red Wings on Sunday night.

Consistency has been a work in progress for the Orange and Black in the early stages of the 2026-27 campaign, as the Terriers have struggled to string together consecutive victories.

One area Yorkton will look to improve is its special teams play, which has struggled on both sides of the puck through the opening stretch of the season.

The Terriers’ power play has converted at just 12.9%, ranking ninth in the SJHL, while their penalty kill sits 10th in the league at 71.0%.

Finding more consistency on special teams could go a long way in helping the Terriers build some momentum, especially with a pair of rivalry games on tap.

One player who hasn’t had trouble finding his offensive game is Alex Morrison, who will face his former team for the first time since being acquired from Melville in a September trade.

After spending the past two seasons with the Millionaires, the Saltcoats product has made an immediate impact in Yorkton, already surpassing his goal and point totals from last season in Melville.

Morrison is coming off a strong week that saw him earn SJHL Saskatchewan Player of the Week honours, highlighted by a Gordie Howe hat trick in Sunday’s loss to Weyburn.

On the other side, the Millionaires enter the first meeting of the season sporting a 4-3 record through their opening seven games.

Tonight marks the first half of a home-and-home set between the Highway 10 rivals, with the two teams set to meet again tomorrow night in Melville at 7:00 p.m.
