Morrison Finding His Offensive Game in Yorkton

YORKTON, SK: Alex Morrison’s strong start with his hometown Yorkton Terriers has earned him league-wide recognition, as the forward has been named the Saskatchewan Player of the Week by the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Morrison capped off the week in style Monday night in Weyburn, recording a Gordie Howe hat trick with a goal, an assist and a fighting major despite the Terriers falling 9-5 to the Red Wings.

The Yorkton product has found his offensive game since joining the Terriers in a trade with the Melville Millionaires, recording four goals and two assists in his first five games with his hometown club.

Morrison had two goals and two assists in 36 games with Melville last season, but has quickly found his offensive touch since making the move to Yorkton.

“Just making the most of his opportunity,” said Terriers Head Coach and General Manager Emery Olauson. “He is a great fit for what we were looking for. He is working hard, and seeing the fruit of his labor.”

For Morrison, the transition back to his hometown and into the Terriers organization has been a smooth one.

“The transition has been overall smooth and really good,” said Morrison. “Obviously coming back to my hometown and playing for the Terriers is pretty special, and the guys and coaching staff have made it really easy to settle in. Everyone in the organization has been really welcoming and I’m just trying to come in every day, work hard and do whatever I can to help the team win.”

Morrison says confidence and opportunity have played a big role in his early success.

“I think a big part of it has just been working hard and doing the right things on the ice, along with confidence and opportunity,” Morrison said. “It’s special when you know your coaches and teammates believe in you and your ability, which has given me a lot of confidence to make plays and be aggressive offensively.”

“I’m playing with a lot more confidence with the puck, and I think that’s allowed me to create more chances and capitalize when they’re there. I’m just trying to stay consistent and keep building off it.”

Morrison was acquired by the Terriers from Melville earlier this season in exchange for a 2027 third-round draft pick and a Player Development Fee.

The hometown forward will look to continue his offensive surge as the Terriers continue their 2026-27 campaign.
