Matt Schoephoerster made 38 saves as the Yorkton Terriers fell to the Weyburn Red Wings 4-1. Cohner Saleski had the lone tally for the Terriers, as a couple late period goals sank Yorkton.

Weyburn opened the scoring early in the first period. A Jacob Hassman shot was wired over the shoulder of Caleb Allen giving the Red Wings a 1-0 lead. Yorkton tied the game less than three mintues later. Saleski broke into Weyburn’s zone on a breakaway, where he deked out Schoephoerster for his second goal of the campaign. Weyburn restored their lead late in the first period. The Terriers couldn’t clear their zone and a turnover was steered home by Jakob Kalin to make it 2-1 Red Wings.

Both teams struggled to solve the goaltenders until less than a minute in the second period. Riley See forced a turnover in Yorkton’s zone and a wide open Ty Mason made no mistake giving the Red Wings a 3-1 lead. Yorkton pushed for a second goal, but Schoephoerster stood his ground not allowing another Terrier marker. Weyburn wrapped up the scoring with an empty net goal from Hassman to take home a 4-1 victory.

Yorkton is back in action on Friday night when they visit the Melfort Mustangs. Puck drop at the Northern Lights Palace is 7:30pm.
