Erik Boers had a pair of goals, while the Yorkton Terriers clinched their quarter-final series with a 3-1 win over the Melfort Mustangs. Kishaun Gervais scored to seal the game, while Kael DePape stopped 32 Mustang shots in the victory.

Melfort opened the scoring early in the contest. A transition play saw Curtis Hammond barrel down the left wing and fire a puck over the shoulder of DePape to give Melfort a 1-0 lead. Both teams pressed for another goal in the opening 20 minutes, but the goalies were standing on their heads, including Joel Favreau stoning Gervais on a breakaway, and DePape robbing the Mustangs on the penalty kill with a left pad save.

Gervais had a chance to tie it midway through the second period. The 20-year-old was brought down on a breakaway and received a penalty shot. Gervais faked the shot and went to the forehand, where Favreau got his right pad on the chance. Yorkton finally found their breakthrough on the power-play. Tanner Sklaruk’s point shot missed the net, but bounced off the back wall right to Boers, who muscled the puck into the net for his first goal of the playoffs.

Both teams pressed for the go ahead marker in the third, and the hero of the game was wearing Terrier colours. Boers intercepted a Melfort pass and released a shot from the high slot that fooled Favreau, for his second goal of the game, to give Yorkton a 2-1 lead. Gervais sealed the deal with an empty net goal from the Yorkton zone, capping off the night with a Lambeau Leap into the Terrier bench.

The Terriers will face the number one seeded Estevan Bruins in the SJHL semi-finals. It is believed that game 1 of that series will take place on Friday at Affinity Place at 7:00pm, but that is still to be determined.
