YORKTON, SK — The Yorkton Terriers have acquired 2007-born forward Alex Morrison from the Melville Millionaires in exchange for a 2027 third-round draft selection and a Player Development Fee.
For Morrison, the move across Highway 10 brings mixed emotions after his time in Melville, but also plenty of excitement as he returns to a community he knows well.
“When I first found out I was being traded, it was emotional knowing my time in Melville was done,” Morrison said. “But when I found out I was coming to Yorkton, a community I know very well filled with friends and family, I was really excited. I think it’s a great opportunity for me, and I can’t wait to get started.”
The move marks a return to Yorkton for Morrison, who spent two seasons with the U18 AAA Yorkton Maulers before making the jump to the SJHL.
Terriers Head Coach and General Manager Emery Olauson said Morrison is a player who has been on Yorkton’s radar and believes there is more to come from the young forward.
“Alex is a player who we always felt played great against us. He has a ton of good experience in the league as a player who started at 17, and we know he grew up watching the Terriers,” Olauson said. “We are thrilled to add a local product who plays with the heart and hustle that Alex does. We feel Alex has, so far, unrealized offensive potential that we are eager for him to tap into.”
Morrison describes himself as a player who can make an impact at both ends of the ice while bringing a competitive edge to the Terriers’ lineup.
“I’d describe myself as a fast, competitive, two-way player who likes to play with an edge,” Morrison said. “I bring energy every night, compete hard in all areas of the ice, and do whatever it takes to help the team win. I take pride in being reliable defensively while also contributing offensively.”
After spending the past two seasons on the opposite side of the Battle of Highway 10, Morrison is also familiar with what it’s like to play in front of the Terrier faithful. Having faced Yorkton in the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, he’s now looking forward to experiencing the rivalry and atmosphere from the other side.
“It’s definitely going to be a bit of a different feeling,” Morrison said. “Playing against Yorkton in the playoffs the last couple of years, I got to see firsthand how competitive this team is and how much the community gets behind them.”
“Now being on the other side, I’m excited to experience that support and be a part of it. I’m looking forward to getting to know the guys, buying into the team, and making a deep playoff run with the Terriers.”
The Terriers would like to welcome Alex and his family back to Yorkton and to the Terrier organization.
Yorkton opens the 2026-27 SJHL regular season on Saturday, September 19, when the Estevan Bruins visit Westland Insurance Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
