Yorkton Battles Mustangs At Home

The Terriers put on a show last night for the numerous family members who made the trip to Yorkton. Family night saw the Terriers snap a two game skid and down the Kindersley Klippers 2-1. Yorkton received goals from Clay Sleeva and Tyson Janzen, while Bradley Mistol earned his first career SJHL win in net. On the three game home-stand, the Terriers have taken 3 of a possible 4 points. Two more would be huge for Yorkton, as they are tied with Nipawin for the 8th and final playoff spot, and are behind Kindersley by one point for 7th. Defensive play has continued to be a strong point for Yorkton, and they will need some timely goals from the offence if they want to overcome the Mustangs.
View From Melfort:
The Melfort Mustangs are well rested having not played a game since defeating the Yorkton Terriers at the Northern Lights Palace on November 13th. Leyton Holoien scored his first career SJHL goal in that 2-0 game, while James Venne had a 17 save shutout. However, the Mustangs past 10 games have not been impressive as the team has gone 4-5-1-0. They have also lost their last three games on the road, being outscored 13-3. One benefit from the week for Melfort is that they are slowly getting healthier. Alex Moar is back in the lineup after missing time due to injury, but the Mustangs are still missing key pieces in Lucas Ochitwa, Damon Byers, Trenton Curtis and Curtis Hammond. Still, this is not a team to take lightly, as they have won both contests against the Terriers, so far this season.
Mr Versatility:
Ever since being moved on a line with Logan Cyca, JD Hall has found his game with the Yorkton Terriers. The Raymond, Alberta product effectively uses his 6-foot-2 frame to separate players from the puck, and he’s willing to go into the dirty areas to regain possession. While 8 points in 22 games don’t stand out to the stats watchers, Hall has a lot more to his game which makes him a valuable piece on this roster. Whether it’s a net front presence, his work ethic, or adding grit by dropping the gloves from time to time, Hall has cemented himself on the Yorkton roster and made himself a beloved player in the “City Where Good Things Happen”.
