The Yorkton Terriers closed out their pre-Christmas schedule in style on Saturday night, earning a convincing 5–2 victory over the Estevan Bruins at Affinity Place.
Yorkton set the tone early and never looked back, scoring five unanswered goals across the first two periods and riding a strong performance from goaltender Callum Creig to secure the win.
The Terriers opened the scoring midway through the first period on the power play. Tylan Henrikson snapped home his third of the season, finishing a setup from Vinay Junek and Evan Auld. Yorkton doubled the lead late in the frame when Jye Zawatsky buried his 14th of the season with just 20 seconds remaining, sending the Terriers into the first intermission up 2–0, the Goal was the Yorkton natives’ 100th SJHL point.
Yorkton’s offence exploded in the second period with three goals in a span of just over two minutes. Gabriel Courchesne got things started, converting a feed from Zawatsky and William Léonard. Less than a minute later, Evan Auld made it 4–0, finishing a play created by Dylan Ruff and Henrikson. Courchesne capped the outburst, striking again on the power play for his second of the night and 14th of the season, prompting Estevan to make a goaltending change.
The Bruins would finally get on the board late in the period, as Chase Holt scored to cut the deficit to 5–1.
Estevan added an early power-play goal in the third period when Noah Asmundson scored just 28 seconds in, but that would be as close as the Bruins would get.
Creig shut the door the rest of the way, stopping 35 of 37 shots to earn his 11th win of the season.
The Terriers will return to action following the Christmas break when they resume SJHL play on January 2nd against the Melville Millionaires.
