Yorkton product Jye Zawatsky is taking the next step in his hockey journey.
The former Yorkton Terriers forward has committed to the University of Regina and will suit up for the Regina Cougars next season.
Zawatsky reflected on what was a lengthy recruiting process and the opportunity to have several schools interested in his services.
“It’s been a long recruiting process,” said Zawatsky. “It was an honour to be in the position where I had many teams showing interest. I know every junior player would love to have that opportunity and it’s something I don’t take for granted.”
The Yorkton product also explained why Regina felt like the right fit for the next chapter of his career.
“I committed to the U of R because I believe it’s the highest level of competition, and I believe Regina is a place where I can take my game to the next level under a great coaching staff and the culture they are building there.”
Terriers Head Coach and General Manager Emery Olauson says Zawatsky’s commitment is the result of years of steady growth and dedication to his craft.
“Jye is a player who continued to develop at a rapid rate each year,” said Olauson. “He holds himself to a very high standard, takes his fitness level very seriously and gets the very most out of himself at every opportunity on and off the ice. It is no surprise that he has earned this opportunity, as he is consistently one of the hardest workers every day. We are very proud of Jye, and it is our team’s goal to advance our players to the highest level possible.”
Zawatsky wraps up an impressive three-year run with the Yorkton Terriers after a breakout final junior season. The forward set career highs with 28 goals, 43 assists, and 71 points during the 2025-26 campaign, establishing himself as one of the top offensive players in the SJHL.
The Yorkton Terriers organization would like to wish Jye all the best as he continues his hockey career with the Regina Cougars.
