The wait is finally over…kinda! The Terriers were set to play their first home game in 31 days on Tuesday…but Mother Nature had other plans, as the incoming winter snowstorm halted the game against the defending champion Melfort Mustangs.
Tonight is the beginning of a home-and-home game between their Highway Rival Melville Millionaires. The two teams have played twice this season, with each home side winning.
Lately, the Terriers have been on a roll. The “Road Dawgs” have won five straight and seven of their last eight, including two neutral-site victories in Churchbridge and Cote First Nation.
Rust or Rest?
The Terriers are coming off a 13-day break after sweeping a pair of road games in Battleford. While some might say the pause could cool their momentum during a five-game win streak, the rest has allowed players to recover from injuries. The team also gets a major boost tonight with the return of Jeff Hammond, who’s been out for nine games. Hammond had an impressive 14 points in eight games before his injury, and his return will immediately strengthen the top-six forward group.
A key factor in the Terriers’ recent success has been the stellar play of starting goaltender Ethan Farrow. Farrow was sensational in the Battleford series, capping it with a 46-save shootout victory. His performances earned him SJHL Goaltender of the Week honors, boasting a .931 save percentage. While the Terriers’ offence is undeniably potent, their playoff potential in March will largely hinge on the efforts of Farrow and rookie goaltender Callum Creig.
Offensively, Dustin Renas continues to shine. Fresh off being named SJHL MVP of the Week with a four-point weekend, Renas has registered points in all but three games this season.
A Look at the Opposition
Doug Johnson and the Millionaires are still searching for answers, who are in the midst of a six game losing skid. Caden Drury continues to pile up the points, even with the losing streak, with 31 in 20 games this season.
The Mills still sit in a playoff spot, and a bright spot with the losses is that three have been one goal losses.
