Yorkton, SK: Captain Jaron Desnoyers scored four times and added an assist as the Yorkton Terriers blitzed the Weyburn Red Wings in front of 1200 fans during the Home Opener.
It was a picture-perfect start for the Terriers in front of a friendly crowd at Westland Arena. Just 1:02 into the game, captain Jaron Desnoyers took an excellent feed from Jeff Hammond, and he beat Angelo Zol for a 1-0 lead.
Shortly after, both teams would trade powerplays, meaning we played 4 on 4 for a brief time.
The Terriers took advantage of the extra space as Desnoyers capitalized again for a 2-0 lead.
Late in the first period, the Terriers would strike again….you guessed it…Desnoyers would cap off the natural hatrick beating Zol five-hole.
The Wings would grab one back with 44 seconds left as Cyprus Smith-Davis beat Farrow under the glove, cutting the lead to two.
Shots were 10-10 after twenty.
In the second period, the Terriers continued to pile on the goals.
It was the top line again as Hammond made a sweet area pass to Leonard, and he roofed it glove side for his first SJHL goal, making it 4-1. Moments later, Desnoyers continued his unbelievable start to the season, sliding home his fourth of the evening and opening up a 5-1 lead.
In the third period, the Terriers kept their foot on the gas and continued to forecheck relentlessly as Dustin Renas picked up a loose puck in the slot, ripped one off the glove and in past Zol for a 6-1 lead.
Both teams would trade powerplay chances late in the third period, but nothing came from it.
The Terriers gave the home fans quite the show for the home opener, and they will try to replicate it on Sunday afternoon in Weyburn. Puck drop is 2 PM.
