YORKTON, SK: The Yorkton Terriers came out on top in their first meeting with the Flin Flon Bombers since last spring’s Canterra Seeds Cup Final, earning a 6-3 victory Saturday night.
Yorkton struck first as Mathys Morrissette opened the scoring with his third goal of the season.
Flin Flon responded with a power-play goal from Ryder Mucha to even the game at 1-1, but the tie didn’t last long.
Alex Morrison put the Terriers back in front before Nathan Ramos extended the lead, giving Yorkton a 3-1 advantage.
Yorkton continued to press in the second period, with Drew Heil adding another goal to make it 4-1.
The Bombers answered on the power play when Dylan Caron cut into the Terriers’ lead, but Yorkton responded once again. Dylan Brass restored the three-goal cushion, sending the Terriers into the third period with a 5-2 lead.
Flin Flon pushed back early in the final frame, with Mucha scoring his second of the night to make it a 5-3 game.
That would be as close as the Bombers would get, as the Terriers remained composed down the stretch. Peter Godley added an empty-net goal to put the game out of reach and seal the 6-3 victory.
Callum Creig turned aside 31 of the 34 shots he faced to backstop Yorkton to the win.
The Terriers are right back in action tomorrow evening, hitting the road to take on the Weyburn Red Wings.
Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m.
