The Yorkton Terriers have added a key piece to their blue line, announcing the signing of 6’1” defenseman Zach Hertz from Billings, Montana. The 181-pound suited up in 58 games last season with the Colorado Rampage U18 AAA program where he served as Captain, posting 8 goals and 18 assists.
Hertz says the decision to join the Terriers was an easy one after getting a feel for the culture surrounding the club.
“I really liked how welcoming the team and coaches were. I love how competitive the team was and how amazing the atmosphere is,” said Hertz.
His goals for the upcoming season reflect a winning mindset and a strong commitment to the team.
“My goals are to come to Yorkton, have a great year, and help bring home a championship with my Terriers’ teammates to Yorkton,” he added.
Beyond hockey, Hertz enjoys golfing, fishing, and spending time with family and friends—interests that underscore his well-rounded personality
When asked what he brings to the table, Hertz points to his drive and work ethic.
“I feel I can bring a high compete level and strong work ethic on and off the ice for the Terriers organization.”
Terriers Head Coach and GM Emery Olauson is excited about what the Montana product will add to the club.
“We have been in connection with Zach over the course of the past year or so. He finally was able to come up to spring camp and he was very impressive,” said Olauson. “He has poise, a big shot, and plays a very solid 200-foot game. I love the fact that he was a captain on his team last year, is a super kid, and will fit into our dressing room very well.”
With character, leadership, and a strong two-way game, Hertz is expected to make an immediate impact on the Terriers’ backend this season.
