For the second straight year, the Yorkton Terriers have punched their ticket to the SJHL Semi-Finals. Now, their pursuit of a seventh Canterra Seeds Cup runs through the Battlefords North Stars.
Yorkton advanced after dispatching their Highway 10 rivals, the Melville Millionaires, in six games—capped off by a 4–1 victory Monday night in the Rail City.
Now, a new chapter begins.
The Terriers and North Stars are set to meet in the playoffs for the first time since the 2019–20 campaign, renewing a matchup between two of the league’s top contenders.
Battlefords earned their spot by knocking off the two-time defending champion Melfort Mustangs in five games, highlighted by a dramatic 4–3 double-overtime win to close out the series.
While regular season numbers often take a back seat in the playoffs, it’s worth noting the Terriers won the season series 3–1, outscoring the North Stars 16–11.
When you break down this matchup, special teams immediately jump off the page.
Yorkton enters Round Two with the league’s second-ranked power play (20.7%) and third-best penalty kill (87.5%). The North Stars aren’t far behind, boasting the third-ranked power play (20.0%) and an elite penalty kill operating above 91%, good for second overall.
Offensively, the spotlight shines on Gabriel Courchesne and Josh Knittig, who sit tied atop the SJHL playoff scoring race with 10 points each.
Another storyline to watch: Yorkton’s blue-line production.
In Round One, Terriers Defencemen accounted for 11 of the team’s 19 goals—led by Thomas Ries and Gavin Bartha with four apiece, alongside contributions from Buckley (2) and Palin (1).
Terriers Nation—the message is simple:
Get to the rink early.
Be loud.
And don’t forget your 50/50 ticket.
