HUMBOLDT, SK — Mattias Schoffner and Vinay Junek scored twice just 2:04 apart early in the third period to lift the Yorkton Terriers to a 6–4 victory over the Humboldt Broncos at Elgar Petersen Arena.
The home side opened the scoring in the first period when Marik Mamic beat Callum Creig low blocker for his second of the campaign.
The Terriers responded moments later, as William Léonard directed his 30th of the season past Brady Holtvogt.
The Broncos regained control with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart, courtesy of Owen Chapman and Morgan Hackman, to close out the opening 20 minutes.
Thomas Ries and Logan Flint had a scrap near the end of the period.
Despite trailing 3–1 after one, Yorkton outshot Humboldt 18–10 in the frame.
In the middle period, the visitors found the start they were looking for. Jye Zawatsky buried his 23rd of the season past Holtvogt to pull the Terriers within one.
Humboldt answered off the rush, as Avery Lowe drove the net from the left wing and chipped the puck over the pad to restore the two-goal advantage.
Yorkton battled back with two goals just 31 seconds apart to tie the game. Gabriel Courchesne spun and fired home his 28th of the year, and he added two assists in the period. Defenceman Tyler Palin then pulled the Terriers even with a slick wrister for his fourth of the season.
Creig made 10 saves in the second period to keep the game level heading into the third.
The Terriers’ offence came out flying in the final frame. Mattias Schoffner scored just 13 seconds in to give Yorkton its first lead of the night, netting his third of the season.
Yorkton struck again on the power play when Vinay Junek ripped home his 17th of the year, extending the lead.
Creig was sensational down the stretch, turning aside 20 shots in the third period as the Terriers withstood a late Broncos push to secure the 6–4 road victory.
