LA RONGE, SK – Jye Zawatsky scored twice, including his eighth and ninth goals of the season, as the Yorkton Terriers powered their way to a 6–2 road victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Wednesday night.
The Terriers opened the scoring early in the first period when Zawatsky continued his strong, poking home a loose puck off a faceoff win to give Yorkton the early advantage.
It was a well-balanced and disciplined opening frame, with no penalties and an even shot count of 11–11 after twenty minutes. In goal, Alexandro Montoya got the start for the Terriers and turned aside every shot he faced, while Graham Brown was steady at the other end for La Ronge aside from the lone tally.
The middle frame was all Yorkton, as the Terriers erupted for three unanswered goals to seize full control of the game. Gabriel Courchesne got things started with his seventh of the campaign, snapping a shot past Brown to make it 2–0. Moments later, Zawatsky struck again—this time on the power play—to extend the lead even further.
With time winding down in the second, defenceman Thomas Ries went coast-to-coast rush before sliding a backdoor feed to Cash Lanigan, who tapped in his sixth goal of the season to make it 4–0 heading into the final frame.
Montoya was sharp throughout, turning aside all nine shots he faced in the period to preserve the shutout through forty minutes.
In the third period, Yorkton continued to pour it on, this time from the blue line as rookie defenceman Mikale Budz jammed home his third goal of the year after a net-front scramble. The Ice Wolves finally found some life midway through the frame, scoring twice in quick succession to cut the deficit to 5–2, but that was as close as they would get.
With just over two minutes remaining, Austin Horbachewsky sealed the victory with an empty-netter, capping off a strong team performance and a convincing 6–2 final.
Montoya finished with 34 saves in the win, anchoring the Terriers to another impressive effort away from home.
The Terriers will now enjoy a well-earned off day on Thursday before wrapping up their northern road swing with a two-game set in North Battleford on Friday and Saturday.
