DAUPHIN, MB — The Yorkton Terriers rallied from an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Dauphin Kings 5–3 in preseason action.

Dauphin jumped out to a strong start, electrifying the home crowd with back-to-back goals from Landyn Garton and Pavel Barclay just over four minutes into the opening period. However, Yorkton cut the lead in half with just one second left in the frame, as Austin Horbachewsky capitalized on a power play opportunity, assisted by Dylan Ruff.

The momentum swung decisively in Yorkton’s favour during the second period. The Terriers erupted for three unanswered goals and outshot Dauphin 24–3 in the frame.

Jake Briltz tied the game at 1:09, followed by a power play goal from Dylan Ruff, and a second man-advantage tally from Aidan Vallance late in the period, giving Yorkton a 4–2 lead heading into the third.

The final frame turned chippy, featuring major penalties and game misconducts. Trae Petersen added an early insurance marker for the Terriers, with Drew Heil and Aidan Vallance picking up the assists. Dauphin’s Shea Chornley closed the gap with a late goal, but the Kings couldn’t mount a full comeback.

Yorkton dominated the shot clock, outshooting Dauphin 69–11—including a staggering 27–2 margin in the third period. The Terriers also controlled special teams, converting 3 of 9 power play chances while holding the Kings to 1-for-3.

Goaltending duties were split for Yorkton: Conner Nicolson stopped 5 of 7 shots before Alex Montoya took over, turning aside 3 of 4. Dauphin cycled through three netminders—Tate Barnaby, Gavin Erickson, and Carter Sigurdson—who combined for 64 saves.

The game featured 62 total penalty minutes. Tensions boiled over midway through the third when Yorkton’s Mason Babiuk and Dauphin’s Carter Unger were ejected following a fight.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 1-0-1 in preseason play. They’ll face the Kings again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 PM.
