ESTEVAN, SK – Ewan Rennie and Oliver Kamp scored shorthanded goals just 47 seconds apart late in the third period, as the Estevan Bruins defeated the Yorkton Terriers 6-3 at Affinity Place.

The opening period was a tough one for the Terriers, with the Bruins coming out strong and netting three goals in a span of just three minutes.

Noah Asmudson opened the scoring by capitalizing on a Terrier turnover and beating goaltender Alexandro Montoya. Rylan Williams added two more, the second on the power play, to make it 3-0. That goal ended Montoya’s night, as Callum Creig entered in relief and went on to stop every shot he faced in the first.

Yorkton got on the board late in the first period with a power-play marker. Gabriel Courchesne threw a puck toward the net that was tipped home by defenceman Thomas Ries, cutting the deficit to two. Despite trailing 3-1 the Terriers still out shot Estevan 16-15.

In the second period, Estevan nearly restored their three-goal lead on a breakaway, but Creig came up with a massive glove save on Williams. That sparked some momentum for the Terriers, who outshot the Bruins 15-6 in the frame.

Vinay Junek made it a one-goal game, jamming home a loose puck in the crease to bring the Terriers within one. After 40 minutes, the Bruins held a 3-2 lead.

Early in the third, the Terriers had a couple of opportunities on the power play, but it was the Bruins who capitalized—twice. Rennie and Kamp scored shorthanded goals just 47 seconds apart to make it 5-2.

On that same power play, Thomas Ries scored his second of the night to once again pull Yorkton within two. The Terriers continued to push late, but the Bruins sealed the win with an empty-net goal. The Terriers finished the game 2/6 on the powerplay and outshot the Bruins 42-29 overall.

With the loss, the Terriers fall to 0-2-1 on the young season. They’ll look to bounce back on the road Friday night in Humboldt.
