Terriers Late Push Falls Short Against Klippers

Simple Shots by Jackie l Blake Friars

The Yorkton Terriers’ offence came ready to play in the opening period, striking three times to seize early control. The line of Jye Zawatsky, William Léonard, and Gabriel Courchesne got things started with a slick three-way passing play, capped off by Zawatsky burying his 16th goal of the season.

The Terriers then added a pair of goals less than two minutes apart from Ryder McDonald, with the second coming shorthanded for his sixth and seventh tallies of the year. McDonald is now riding a hot streak with three goals over his last two games and has recorded a point in six of his last eight outings.

The Klippers cut into the lead in the final minute of the first period when a shot from Bryson Carlyle slipped past Alexandro Montoya, trimming the deficit to two.

Yorkton held a decisive edge in play, outshooting Kindersley 20–9 through the opening twenty minutes.

The Klippers’ offence came to life in the middle frame, striking three times to grab their first lead of the night. Russ Demo got things started on the power play, before Ethan Sautner followed up at even strength. Brock Evans then capped the surge by beating Alexandro Montoya on a penalty shot, putting the visitors ahead 4-3.

The Terriers mounted a strong push for the equalizer in the third period and earned four powerplays including two late, but they couldn’t solve Mattias Radke, who was outstanding—turning aside all 17 shots he faced in the final frame for a final total of 44.

The Terriers will look to regroup on the road next Wednesday as they travel to Estevan to take on the Bruins.
