After dropping three straight games in late November, the Yorkton Terriers have rebounded impressively as the calendar flipped to December. They’ve strung together three consecutive wins, all decided by a single goal, with two requiring extra time.
This team is showing its ability to win in different ways—a trait that will be invaluable later in the season when goals and victories become harder to come by.
Tonight, the Terriers find themselves in a unique setting: the Southland Co-op Centre in Assiniboia. This venue is temporarily hosting Weyburn’s games after multiple leaks at Crescent Point Place forced repairs.
Following tonight’s clash with the Red Wings, the Terriers will enjoy something they haven’t had since October: a stretch of consecutive home games. With the Christmas break on the horizon, Yorkton has 30 games remaining after tonight, and 19 of them will take place at Westland Insurance Arena. It’s a welcome change for the Terriers, who have played the fewest home games in the SJHL. Despite this, they’ve been solid at Westland, posting a 6-3 record.
Their success on the road has been equally impressive, boasting a 10-6-1 record—second only to the defending champion Melfort Mustangs’ road performance.
Tonight marks the fourth meeting of the season between the division-rival Wings and Terriers, with Yorkton holding a slight 2-1 edge. The Red Wings have cooled off after an impressive 14-game point streak, losing five of their last eight contests.
