YORKTON, SK – Alex Morrison’s shorthanded goal in the second period was the only offence needed, as the Melville Millionaires edged the Yorkton Terriers 1-0 in their final regular-season matchup. The two teams now prepare to face off in the first round of the playoffs.
The first period of the final meeting between the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires was a fast-paced, tight-checking 20 minutes. Both teams earned power-play opportunities, but the game remained scoreless despite both sides’ chances.
Ethan Farrow, making his 29th start of the season, was perfect, stopping all 10 shots he faced, while Mills goaltender Ben Laurette turned away all 11 shots from the Terriers.
The game’s first goal was scored in the middle frame, when Alex Morrison beat Farrow blocker side to give Melville the lead. It was another penalty-filled period, with both teams receiving two power-play opportunities, but neither could capitalize.
Yorkton held a slight 21-20 shot advantage after 40 minutes.
The third period remained scoreless, with Farrow making 18 saves for a total of 37 in the game. Unfortunately, he received no offensive support, as the Terriers’ attack was shut down by goaltender Laurette, who stopped all 29 shots he faced.
With the regular season now complete, Game One set for Friday night at Westland Arena.
