Colby Bear had a pair of markers, while Holden Doell and Kian Bell each had a two point night, as the Battlefords North Stars handed the Terriers their third straight loss, by a 5-2 mark. Clay Sleeva and Dylan Ruptash led the way offensively for the Terriers with a goal and assist each.
The North Stars opened the scoring 1:29 in the game. An initial shot from Bell was turned aside by Caleb Allen, and Doell put home the garbage to make it 1-0 North Stars. The score stayed that way into the second period. Battlefords doubled their lead, after a turnover in Yorkton’s zone landed on the stick of Doell, who found Bell at the back door with a wide open cage, for his ninth goal of the season. Yorkton cut the lead in half before the end of the frame. Ruptash poked the puck off the North Stars defender’s stick right to Sleeva in the slot, and the Canora product wired home a blast to make it 2-1.
The Achilles heel for the Terriers caught up with them again. The third period. Keiton Klein increased the Battlefords lead to 3-1, with a one-timed blast from the left point that flew past Allen. Battlefords increased their lead again, thanks to Colby Bear. The Peguis, Manitoba product blew wide around a Yorkton defender, before launching a shot that Allen got a piece of but not enough, to make it 4-1. Bear wasn’t done yet. This time flying down the right wing, Bear went top corner on Allen for his second of the game, fifth of the season to make it 5-1. The Terriers replied before the end of the game. Sleeva poked a puck forward for Greg Nelson, who made a cross ice pass to Ruptash, for his team leading sixth goal of the season, to make it a 5-2 game.
The Terriers wrap up their three game road trip tomorrow night in Kindersley. The game will be broadcast on the GX 94 alternate stream with the pre-game show at 7:20pm and play-by-play at 7:30pm.
