Terriers Drop Penalty-Filled Game One

The opening twenty minutes between the Yorkton Terriers and the Flin Flon Bombers turned into a parade to the penalty box, with the Bombers earning four power plays.

Flin Flon struck first, as Landon Alexander beat Callum Creig stick side. They doubled their lead shortly after, with Nathan Lalumiere directing a shot glove side past Creig to make it 2-0.

The Terriers answered on the power play, as Gabriel Courchesne blasted home his fifth of the playoffs, cutting the deficit in half.

The Bombers responded late in the period, with Wyatt Stinson capitalizing on the man advantage to restore the two-goal cushion.

Flin Flon outshot Yorkton 16-12 in the opening frame.

In the second period, the Bombers extended their lead to three, as Stinson netted his second of the night. That goal marked the end of Creig’s evening, as Alexandro Montoya came on in relief for the first time this postseason. Creig finished the night allowing four goals on 34 shots.

The change in goal provided a spark for Yorkton, as Thomas Ries and Austin Horbachewsky scored less than a minute apart to pull the Terriers back within one.

However, Flin Flon was handed yet another power play and made no mistake, with Rhett Ewan burying a rebound from the slot for their third power-play goal of the game.

Through forty minutes, the Bombers held a significant edge in opportunities with six power plays compared to Yorkton’s two.

In the third period, the Bombers added two more, as Connor Miller and Brayden Bruce scored late to put the game out of reach.

The Bombers finished 3/7 on the power play, while the Terriers got just three chances on the man advantage.

The Terriers will look to get right back on the horse tomorrow as they aim to split the series. Puck drop is set for 6:30 Saskatchewan time.
