YORKTON, SK: Brayden Skogstad scored twice, and Eddy Gauthier made 16 saves as the Humboldt Broncos handed the Yorkton Terriers their first loss of the season, defeating them 7-4.
In the afternoon matinee, the visitors stormed out of the gate, outshooting the Terriers 8-1 in the first five minutes of the game.
They would be rewarded for it as Jacob Strizzi beat Ethan Farrow from a sharp angle glove side, opening the scoring.
The Terriers would respond with a pair of goals.
First, while shorthanded, Carter Briltz stormed down the left wing and put a shot off the pad of Eddy Gauthier, and it went right to Vinay Junek, who tied the game with his first SJHL goal.
The Terriers would add another a minute later, this time on the powerplay.
A loose puck came to Zawatsky and he beat Gauthier for a 2-1 lead. Coyle and Knutson picked up assists.
The Broncos would tie the game shorthanded as Brayden Skogstad ripped one under the bar past Farrow, deadlocking the game at 2-2.
Farrow was excellent in the opening frame with 12 saves.
The second period between the Terriers and the Broncos was eventful.
The Broncos opened the period with a goal 24 seconds in as Ryder Knutson beat Farrow glove giving the visitors a 3-2 lead.
Chaos would ensue midway through the second period when Coyle was hit from behind in the corner; Zawatsky came to the defence of his teammate and was ejected for fighting along with Broncos Knutson.
The Terriers would grab a powerplay when it was all said and done but could not capitalize.
The Broncos would add another shortly after the penalty kill as Gabriel Fillion beat Farrow, giving the visitors a 4-2 lead.
The Broncos would add another as Marik Mamic put home a loose puck at the side of the net for his first of the season.
The goal chased Farrow, as he was replaced by Callum Creig, allowing five goals on 33 shots.
The Terriers were outshot 19-3 in the middle frame.
It was an unfortunate start to the final frame for the home side as Landen Stromme floated one in on Creig from just past the red line and it slid through the five-hole for a 6-2 lead.
The Terriers would grab one back on the powerplay as Keenan Ingram snapped a shot past Gauthier, cutting the lead to 6-3.
The Terriers would get another goal after a pretty passing play with Hammond Desnoyers, and it was Tyler Palin capping off his first SJHL goal.
The Terriers were outshot 43-20 and fell for the first time this season. The Terriers will be back in action Friday night when the Nipawin Hawks visit Westland Arena.
