Yorkton, SK: William Leonard and Jaron Desnoyers both scored a pair, and Ethan Farrow stopped all 16 shots he faced as the Yorkton Terriers crushed the Melville Millionaires 7-0 in the preseason finale.

In the first period, the Terrier’s offence got work quickly; just 1:38 into the game, William Leonard snapped home a rebound off the pad of Mills goaltender Nick Genette for his first of the preseason. Jeff Hammond picked up the lone assist.

The Terriers would add to their lead just past the midway point of the opening frame as Vinay Junek dashed down the right wing and ripped one upstairs short side for his first of the preseason, and gave the home side a 2-0 lead.

Only 30 seconds later, the Terriers would capitalize again. Leonard tipped a Hammond centring pass through the legs of Genette for his second of the night.

Things got a bit chippy moments after the 3-0 marker, as Dustin Renas and Brendan Olson mixed it up after the whistle in front of the penalty box resulting in a Terriers powerplay, but they could not convert.

The Terriers outshot the Mills 12-6 in the opening twenty minutes.

In the second period, the Terriers continued to pour on the offence as David Coyle connected on the powerplay on a pretty feed from Schofer.

The special teams continued to play a factor as Desnoyers turned on the wheels and slid a shot five-hole past Genette for a 5-0 lead. The goal was his third of the preseason.

Shortly after, on another powerplay, the floodgates opened, as Schofer tipped home a Zawatsky shot from the slot for a 6-0 lead.

The chippiness of the home and home continued when Harrison Aldridge shed the mitts with Mills forward Brendan Olson, and each got five for fighting and a game misconduct.

The Terriers outshot the Mills 18-5 in the second period.

In the third period, the Terriers added one more for good measure on a beautiful setup from defenceman Quinn Johnston as he found a wide-open Desnoyers at the side of the net, and he roofed it for his second of the evening, making it a 7-0 game. The Terriers outshot the Mills 11-5 in the third period and 41-16 overall in the game.

The Terriers conclude preseason play with a 4-1 record and will now shift their focus to the Weyburn Red Wings when things get going for real Friday night for the Home Opener. Puck drop is 7:00 PM.
