Terriers Crush Hawks, Extend Division Lead

Simple Shots by Jackie l Written by: Blake Friars

In the first period, the Terriers struck first on the man advantage as Cash Lanigan stayed hot, tipping home a Thomas Ries point shot for his 15th of the season.

The Hawks found themselves in penalty trouble after a roughing minor and a pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, giving Yorkton an extended 5-on-3 opportunity. Despite several quality looks, they couldn’t solve Scott, and it remained 1–0.

The Terriers outshot the Hawks 15–9 in the opening twenty minutes.

In the middle frame, Yorkton added to its lead on the power play once again, as Ries cashed in for his 16th of the season. Gabriel Courchesne and Evan Auld recorded the assists.

The Hawks responded when Mason Karakochuk was sprung on a breakaway and beat Creig low blocker, cutting the Terriers’ lead in half.

Yorkton regained its two-goal cushion shortly after, as Vinay Junek’s shot from the slot ramped up Scott’s stick and in to make it 3–1.

The visitors struck again on the power play, with Braeden Jockims wiring a shot past Creig — needing just six seconds with the man advantage to pull within one.

The Terriers answered emphatically with a pair of goals 1:57 apart. Jye Zawatsky jammed home his 25th of the season before Brett Buckley blasted in his fourth after a beautiful cross-ice feed from captain Tylan Henrikson.

Yorkton outshot Nipawin 15–7 in the second period for a 31–16 advantage through forty minutes.

The goals kept coming from the home side as Courchesne dazzled just 14 seconds into the third period with a backhand beauty for his 30th of the season, surpassing the 70-point plateau with a three-point night.

Gavin Bartha added one more for good measure as the Yorkton Terriers cruised to a 7–2 victory over the Nipawin Hawks.

Callum Creig made 18 saves for his 25th win of the season.

With the victory, the Terriers move six points ahead of Weyburn in the Bunge Division while still holding a game in hand.

They return to action tomorrow night when the Ice Wolves visit Westland Arena for the final time this season.
