The Yorkton Terriers announced their leadership group for the 2022/23 season. Logan Cyca will be the team’s captain, while JD Hall, Greg Nelson and Tyson Perkins were named the assistant captains for the team’s 50th season in the league.
Head Coach and General Manager Mat Hehr said it was a difficult decision as around 10 different players could’ve been named the captain.
“They’ve been exceptional since they’ve come to Yorkton,” added Hehr. “We’ve got a great group in the dressing room, and those four have taken the lead over everyone else.”
All four players are entering their second full season with the Terriers. Cyca put up 19 points in 23 regular season games last year, while adding four assists in the playoffs. Hall had 17 points in 43 regular season games since being acquired from the Weyburn Red Wings, and he posted five playoff points last season. Both Nelson and Perkins were acquired from the Whitecourt Wolverines. Nelson had 14 points in 33 regular season games and four points including an overtime goal against Melfort in game 3 of the playoffs. Perkins is the only player on the leadership group eligible to come back next season. The 19-year-old had 8 points in 33 regular season games before having his season cut short in January due to injury.
Hehr stated his expectations for the group. “Just be themselves. They’re natural leaders, that’s what got them the letters. As long as they are themselves and try not to be anyone they’re not, they’ll be alright.”
