Tavender Nets Winner, Creig Perfect in Terriers Victory

YORKTON, SK – Quinn Tavender’s first goal of the season early in the second period stood up as the game-winner, and Callum Creig stopped all 23 shots he faced as the Yorkton Terriers blanked the Melfort Mustangs 2–0 on home ice.

The opening twenty minutes were scoreless, as both the Mustangs and Terriers saw power play opportunities slip away. The best chance to break the deadlock came from Melfort’s Tristan Ziola, but he was denied by Creig, making his first start in three games. The Terriers’ goaltender turned aside all six shots he faced in the period, while Mustangs netminder Madden Mulawka stopped seven at the other end.

Yorkton opened the scoring in the second period when Tavender jumped on a loose puck and buried his first of the campaign past Mulawka to make it 1–0. Later in the frame, the Terriers capitalized on the man advantage as Jye Zawatsky found Gabrielle Courchesne in the right circle, and he blasted home his sixth of the season to double the lead.

The Terriers outshot the Mustangs 12–9 in the second period, with both teams receiving two power play opportunities.

In the third, Creig stood tall again, stopping all eight shots he faced to seal the shutout—his second in SJHL play.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 5-5-1 and will now be off until next Friday when the Flin Flon Bombers visit Westland Arena for the second time in two weeks.
