Ries Returns as Terriers Clash With Wings

It’s the fifth meeting of the season between the Yorkton Terriers and the Weyburn Red Wings, and the Terriers are still searching for their first win of the year against their Bunge Division rivals. Yorkton is 0-2-2 in the season series, with the most recent matchup coming December 2 in Weyburn, a 3-2 defeat.

The Terriers will receive a major boost on the back end tonight as Thomas Ries returns to the lineup after capturing a silver medal with Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge in Quebec last week. The Humboldt product delivered a standout performance at the tournament, scoring twice, including the game-winning goal in the semifinal that punched Canada West’s ticket to the gold medal game.

Tonight’s contest begins a critical stretch for Yorkton, as the club has just three games remaining before the Christmas break — all of them key division matchups. The Terriers will close out the first half of the schedule with a home-and-home series against the Estevan Bruins this weekend.

Yorkton enters tonight with six wins in their last ten games and continues to climb the standings in a tightly contested Bunge Division. With three to four games in hand on each of their division rivals, the Terriers will be looking to gain valuable ground as the calendar turns toward the second half of the season.
