Red-Hot Terriers Face Broncos in Family Day Showdown

The red-hot Yorkton Terriers hit the road to take on the Humboldt Broncos on Family Day in Saskatchewan!

This marks the Terriers’ second and final visit to Elgar Petersen Arena this season. You might remember their dominant 6-2 victory there back on September 27th, which was part of their impressive 5-0 start to the season.

Yorkton is finding its stride at the perfect time, riding a four-game winning streak and closing the gap in the Viterra Division to just a single point. With both the Terriers and the Red Wings set to play 10 more games, the race is heating up.

David Coyle is a player who probably isn’t eager for the week to reset—he was on fire last week and is a strong candidate for SJHL MVP of the Week. He racked up five goals and four assists, including an incredible seven-point, four-goal explosion Friday night in Estevan. The North Vancouver native now sits third in SJHL scoring with 55 points, trailing only his linemate Jaron Desnoyers, who leads the league with 61.

As for the Broncos, they’re locked in a tight battle for playoff positioning, with the 5th to 7th seeds separated by just two points. Currently sitting in sixth, this game could very well serve as a first-round playoff preview.

The acquisition of goaltender Dazza Mitchell has been a game-changer for Humboldt. After an uncharacteristic start in Weyburn—where he posted a 5-6-1 record, a 3.43 GAA, and a .902 SV%—Mitchell has completely turned things around with the Broncos. Since joining the team, he’s gone 6-3-1 with a stellar 2.60 GAA and an elite .928 SV%, providing much-needed stability in net. The Broncos are coming off a weekend split against the Battlefords North Stars.
