Quarter-Final Playoff Preview

For the second year in a row, the Yorkton Hyundai Terriers have clinched a birth in the 2020 SJHL Canalta Cup playoffs.

The Terriers first round opponent will be the La Ronge Ice Wolves, who earned a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2016.

Over 4 meetings with the Ice Wolves this season, the Terriers went 2-2-0-0.

In the first meeting of the season, the Ice Wolves defeated the Terriers 6-4 at the Farrell Agencies Arena. A re-match the next night in Churchbridge, for a neutral site game, and the renaming of the Churchbridge Arena to “Kaminski Arena”, the Terriers needed extra-time to take down the Ice wolves 3-2 in overtime.

Nearly a month later the Ice Wolves would return to the Farrell Agencies Arena in Yorkton, where 60 minutes solved nothing, and the Terriers once again would need extra time to get past the northern squad 3-2.

The Ice Wolves would host a neutral site game in Pinehouse, roughly 3 hours northwest of La Ronge, for the last regular season meeting. The Ice Wolves would score four 3rd period goals to get by the Terriers 5-4.

The Terriers defeated the Nipawin Hawks in last year’s playoffs in game 7 to upset the #1 seeded Hawks, but fell to the eventual SJHL Canalta Cup Champion Battleford North Stars in four games.
